CREATIVE CHALLENGE :
A friend and I created this program in 2021 to bring joy to sheltered children facing literacy and language barriers at the Long Beach center. It was a video based Spanish/English read-along initiative that required coordinating volunteer, financial, & government support.
THE APPROACH :
Quickly develop the entire program from start to finish, create relationships with dual-immersion school volunteers, & get the donated books and coordinating Spanish spoken videos in children’s hands
Secure private funding & source the books, activities & crafts in coordination with local Long Beach foundations
Gain attention from the Mayor of Long Beach, who created the website’s welcome video to the children in Spanish
Build the password-protected website with photo-based navigation for non-English speaking children to easily select books and ancillary handouts for parents, scripts for children, activity instructions & more
